Despite the never ending rain this season, the Diabetes Ride-A-Thon held at Rushmount Saturday, June 1 was a huge success. That day, 38 horses in total came out to support the cause and close to $5,000 was raised for Diabetes Canada and to help send kids to Camp Huronda (camp for kids with Diabetes in Huntsville).

Heidi Mueller and Mikael McCahon, owners of Rushmount, prepared trails for days in preparation of the event, marking with directional arrows and dropping mulch in mushy areas.

The trail still was a bit of a challenge in spots after the serious storm Friday night, but all had a great time with nice weather.

McCahon and Mueller's daughter (Hayden) is a type one diabetic and was diagnosed at the age of 7. She is proving that you can still be a serious competitor even if you have Diabetes.

After the ride, riders were given a lunch sponsored by the Lions Club. Prizes were given out to the wisest rider, youngest rider, farthest travelled and more. The rider with the most pledges won a $500 shopping spree.

Lily Bolt of Angus was the grand prize winner gathering $1800  in pledges. Next year the ride will be on the first Saturday of June and we are hoping to raise even more money.
