Stallions vying for championship crown tonight (8 photos)

'I believe we are very seasoned for this game and are definitely ready. ... Their work ethic is second to none,' says coach Martino Di Sabatino of Orillia

The winning streak remains firmly intact for the Huronia Stallions varsity football team, which heads into the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) championship game later today in London.

The Stallions punched their ticket to the title game after defeating the North Halton Crimson Tide, 24-15, last Saturday.

Stallions head coach Martino Di Sabatino says his team is even more prepared for the championship match-up after some gruelling playoff games.

“Our last two playoff games really tested our ability to do things against teams, tested our resiliency and they were like two heavyweight fights, but felt more like 15 rounds than 12,” Di Sabatino said on Friday.

It will be two teams with perfect seasons under their belts today when the Stallions face the undefeated Sarnia Sturgeon.

The game starts at 7 p.m. at Western University.

Di Sabatino says he isn’t taking the Sturgeon lightly, but is confident in his team’s readiness.

“They are undefeated and that is a great accomplishment, but our coaching staff feel that our road was a lot more difficult,” he said. “I believe we are very seasoned for this game and are definitely ready.

"The players showed that last week and continue to practise hard," Di Sabatino added. "They certainly aren’t taking anything lightly, even though we have had great success as of late. Their work ethic is second to none.”

Heading into this year’s OSFL playoffs, the Stallions have a 21-0-1 record in regular-season play since 2018.

The Huronia squad was undefeated in the regular season heading into the 2019 final, only to lose a 25-10 heart-breaker to the Brantford Bisons.
