Terriers find their stride, dominate Spartans (3 photos)

Orillia cruised to its fourth straight victory, earning a dominant 5-1 home ice triumph over league newcomers from Innisfil

The McLean & Dickey Orillia Terriers were not gracious hosts when the newest Provincial Junior C Hockey League team, the Innisfil Spartans, made their inaugural foray into Orillia.

The Terriers used superb goaltending, strong defence and explosive offence to dominate the visitors, earning a 5-1 victory over Innisfil — much to the delight of more than 300 fans at Orillia’s Rotary Place Saturday night.

After a scoreless first frame, Orillia exploded with three goals in the middle stanza, before adding two more in the third period.

Josh Brown paced the Terriers’ offence with two goals, while Kaden Goggins, Caleb Sands and Kory Lund added single tallies. Colton Drummond picked up a pair of assists for the victors.

Reed Spinola returned to the Orillia net and was superb, stopping 30 of 31 shots. He lost his shutout bid with just one minute remaining in the game, which saw Orillia outshoot Innisfil 49-31.

The win came less than 24 hours after the Terriers won a thrilling 6-5 overtime contest in Penetang on Friday night.

Brown was the overtime hero for Orillia which overcame a two-goal, second-period deficit en route to the road win.

Last Sunday, the Terriers scored three unanswered third-period goals to defeat the host Caledon Golden Hawks 6-2.

With the wins, Orillia has improved its record to 4-2.

The Terriers are off until next Saturday night when they welcome Stayner to Rotary Place. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
