Three members of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed at Ontario Winter Festivals held in Etobicoke.

Swimmers from all over Ontario, 13 years and younger, had to meet a qualifying standard in order to participate in the meet.

Ariel McGee (13) qualified in the 100 butterfly, Mathieu Rainville (13) qualified in the 50-metre freestyle and Indiana Abram (11) qualified in the 100- and 200-metre butterfly events. Abram broke the 11/12 boys' 200 butterfly club record (2:59.49).

“Indiana just set a new club record in the 200 butterfly at Regionals earlier this month," said  coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. "It was awesome. He dropped almost four full seconds from his best time just two weeks later."

Rainville and McGee were at their first Provincial level meet and did a great job competing. Both swimmers raced a personal best time and handled the tough competition quite well.

“We are pleased with our results at Winter Festivals and looking forward to our upcoming competitions,” said Thompson-Edwards.
