Twin Lakes teams roll to Simcoe County titles

Both junior boys and senior boys capture crowns, advance to GBSSA semis next week

A pair of basketball teams from Twin Lakes Secondary School dribbled their ways to regional titles this week.

JUNIOR BOYS

The junior boys' squad tipped off against Nottawasaga Pines in the Simcoe County Athletic Associatoin (SCAA) championship Thursday and sizzled on their home court.

Twin came out with a great defensive effort and keep their southern rivals to only six points in the first half.

With great ball movement and teamwork, the Twin Lakes boys pulled away on the offensive side as well and earned the title in convincing fashion as they won 59-29 win.

Coached by Jamie Bell and Doug Gowanlock, members of the team include: Matt Marzano, Simon Loft, Kellan MacDonald, Mitchell White, Mason Ventura, Matt Casselman, John Snake, Wyatt Thompson, Zac Waite, Luke Parna-Gile, Cohen Black and Mason Burnett.

SENIOR BOYS

The Twin Lakes senior boys also hosted Nottawasga Pines in their title game.

Twin Lakes trailed by two points at half, thanks to poor outside shooting which can be attributed to losing four practice days in light of the snow, said coach Andrew Corry. '

However, the home side rallied in the second half and tightened up defensively. Corry said Jack Farrell, Aaron MacDonald and Brandon Papist "put the clamps on" and began to hit some shots.

Prestan Reed-Lumsden led all scorers and hit five three-point shots in the second half to propel the Thunderbirds to a 70-56 victory.

Members of the senior squad include: Jack Farrell, Vadim Boshnyak, Liam Fitzroy, Kyle Hann, Ethan Reed-Lumsden, Nassir Al-Tamimi, Brandon Papist, Aiden Hoffman, Gray Handy, Hunter Adelson, Aaron MacDonald, Prestan Reed-Lumsden and Jacob Hammill.

Both the junor and senior boys' teams will take on their Catholic rivals on Tuesday at Twin Lakes.

The seniors will play a very talented and stacked squad from St. Joe's in Barrie. It's not yet known who the juniors will face on the same day.
