HURONIA STALLIONS

Varsity
The Huronia Stallions Varsity team improved to 2-2 on the season with an impressive 38-23 victory over the Oakville Titans. The game was never close with Oakville scoring two late touchdowns. The Stallions built a 17-0 by the midway point of the second quarter before giving up a touchdown on an Oakville fumble recovery late in the half. The Stallion offence was fortunate that on the ensuing possession Oakville took a major penalty that gave them good field position.
They were able to capitalize on a trick play when backup Quarterback Justin Winn caught a lateral pass and completed a downfield pass to Alex Glass for the touchdown. Quarterback Zach Patfield played well in his first start for the Stallions. He completed 7 of 11 passes for 101 yards with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to Wide Receiver Will McCullock.
In the second half, Running Back Zach Kuhn ran the ball with authority and scored two on two touchdown runs. Justin Janicki also had a strong game rushing. On defence, the Stallions were led by the ferocious play of Defensive Tackle Zechariah Willems. Willems had two quarterback sacks with one resulting in a forced fumble that was scooped up by Nose Tackle TJ Pusey who rumbled down the field for a 26-yard return.
Linebacker Clayton Mrazek ripped the ball out of the hands of an Oakville returner on a short kick and had a timely interception when Oakville was fighting to get back in the game. Defensive Tackle Samuel Lowrie made a big impact with two quarterback sacks.
The game was salted away when Jordan Travis secured an interception on Oakville’s final possession. The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 6pm at the Barrie Community Sports Complex where they will take on their rivals from Sudbury.
Junior Varsity
The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team notched their first win of the season with a 16-2 victory over the Brampton Bulldogs. The young and improving Stallions squad moved to 1-3 on the season with the win. The Stallions were led on offence by Quarterback Kieran Harrison and Running Back Preston Howard. Howard had over 100 yards rushing on the day and Harrison rushed for a score on a nifty naked boot play and completed a touchdown to Wide Receiver Brayden Harkness.
On defence, the Stallions were led by Free Safety Victor Garcia who had several important tackles. Nico Burton had a strong game at Defensive Tackle and Ty Racine made several impressive tackles in his first game action of the season. Scott Labolt and Rio Campo each had key interceptions that thwarted Brampton drives and gave the Stallions excellent field position. The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 2pm at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst against the Sudbury Gladiators.
Bantam
The Huronia Stallions Bantam team dropped to 3-1 on the season with a hard fought 36-28 loss to the Oakville Titans. The Stallions fell behind early and were unable to erase that early disadvantage. The Stallions offence did a great job moving the mall throughout the game and were led by Running Backs Vail Rambaran and Ethan Travis who gained tough inside yards.
The offensive line collectively had a great game with their pass protection giving Quarterback Will Howard time to complete passes to his talented receiving corps. Rambaran, Howard, Elliott Michieli, and Ethan Travis scored the Stallions’ touchdowns. Unfortunately, two Stallion touchdowns were called back because of penalties. On defence, the Stallions were beset by key injuries and some uneven play including several instances of broken containment.
The Stallions were stout in coverage but could not contain the Oakville Quarterback who ran for several first downs. Sean Deasy, Luca Barbaro, and Cameron Taylor were the top defensive players.
The Stallions next game is a critical matchup against the undefeated Brampton Bulldogs. Kickoff is this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst.
