The U12 Girls Lakers team capped off their season with silver at their provincial tournament hosted in Ottawa on April 14-16.

The girls came together as a team in October, with most players new to basketball, and developed skills, tactics and sportsmanship under the guidance of coaches Josh Morgan and Jon Vodarek.

The girls worked hard to develop a strong defensive game, shutting down their opponent’s offensive play. Their quick transitions, coupled with layups and complementary foul shots, helped them win games and move up two divisions ahead of the provincial playoffs.

While in Ottawa, the girls decided, “we the storm,” and brought their best on to the court. They hustled, dug deep, and put all they had learned into practise. They outplayed Hall of Fame (Bradford) 27-17, Vaughan City 20-18, Vaughan Panthers 23-16, and YNBA (York) 26-25, securing a spot in Sunday afternoon's medal game going 4-0 in round-robin play.

The final game ended with a two-point loss in OT. The girls played with integrity, compassion and grit until the final buzzer. They accepted their silver medals with composure and grace and held their heads high, proud of all they accomplished this season!

Team members include Adelyn Odette, Amelia Vodarek, Ava Mathieson, Bray LaChapelle, Emily Bell, Karstin Picken, Leiah Krynicki, Lexi Ingersoll-Baker, London Robitaille, Maggie Devine, Rylan Mitchell, Sierra Kohler, and Wynn Morgan.
