This week, we started a nine-part series in which we are offering answers from Mayor Steve Clarke and the city's eight ward councillors on seven key issues.

One of the questions touches on the concerns from some citizens about a perceived lack of public input into council decisions. Each was asked if council is transparent enough and if enough is being done to encourage public input.

The issue came up recently when the city endorsed, in principle, an ambitious masterplan for the Lake Couchiching waterfront and associated parks.

Many citizens expressed concerns about the recommendations and didn't feel they were listened to.

So, what could be done to improve communication and better engage the public before decisions are made?
