Low-key Christmas events keep local residents busy this week (5 photos)

Lafontaine hosted Noёl au Village last weekend while Midland's Santa Claus parade goes tomorrow

While Santa Claus is slated to touch down in Midland's Little Lake Park Saturday, Tiny Township got into the Christmas spirit last Sunday.

While there haven’t been many holiday-related events this year due to COVID-19, Lafontaine hosted Noёl au Village...On the Fly, which saw the township and Le Festival du Loup again join forces to offer a Christmas get-together for area residents.

Hundreds attended the afternoon event that featured a small Christmas vendor market under the Robert Robitaille Pavilion as well as a chance for kids to take home a free Noël au Village holiday kit, which included cookie decorating, colouring pages, craft kits and special goodies.

The event followed health and safety guidelines provided by the local health unit.

As for Midland’s foray into the holiday spirit. The town is hosting a social-distancing option Saturday called a reverse Santa Claus parade.

Slated to run from 1 to 3 p.m., the Civitan parade won’t be allowing any pedestrian traffic, but will see spectators drive by the event's various floats from the comfort and safety of their own vehicles.

The plan calls for residents to enter Little Lake Park Road from King Street in their vehicles and proceed through the park to view the floats that will be spread out in various locations. They’ll then exit the reverse parade route by turning right onto Yonge Street.

Residents without vehicles may ride the town’s free transit shuttle that will be picking up/dropping off riders in front of the curling club.
