Three Midland, four Tiny residents among 87 new COVID-19 cases in region today

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 9,726 cases of COVID-19 with 7,950 of those cases recovered and 218 cases ending in death

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 87 new COVID-19 cases in today's update (April 22).

There are 1,142 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 2,635 variant cases confirmed to date, with 715 of those cases still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 9,726 cases of COVID-19 with 7,950 of those cases recovered and 218 cases ending in death. 

There are 41 people from Simcoe County and two people from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes six new hospitalizations since yesterday. 

To date, 153,878 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of a vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 24 per cent of the region's population. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified): 

  • Midland (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Tiny (4): One person between 35 and 44 years old and three people between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Collingwood (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old. One case is linked to close contact and the other is listed as community transmission.
  • Wasaga Beach (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact. 
  • Barrie (29): Eleven youth under 18 years old, six people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. Six cases are linked to close contact, three were community-acquired, and one was linked to travel. 
  • Innisfil (4): Four people between 18 and 34 years old. One case was community-acquired and one is linked to close contact. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (19): Two youth under 18 years old, seven people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact, two are attributed to community transmission, and two are outbreak-related. 
  • Orillia (8): One youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, and three people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact and three are listed as community-acquired. 
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old. 
  • Ramara (2): Two youth under 18 years old. Both cases are linked to close contact.
  • Midland (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Tiny (4): One person between 35 and 44 years old and three people between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Essa (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Three cases are linked to close contact. 
  • New Tecumseth (5): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact. 
  • There is one new case in Huntsville, a youth from Bracebridge.
