Jack Campbell Calvert, in his 93rd year, died peacefully at the Leacock Care Centre in Orillia, on January 29, 2021.

Jack was married for many years to Carol Calvert (predeceased) of Orillia. Predeceased by his brother, Bruce Calvert. Jack was the loving father of Carla Winchester (Doug) of Ottawa, Lisa Leroux (Bill) of Brockville, and Hillary Calvert of Gravenhurst. Special Grampa to Graham (Annie), Craig, and Ross Winchester, and Claire (Justin) Leroux. Predeceased by his beloved grandson Nicholas Leroux. Great Grampa to Aven and Isla Winchester. Predeceased by his cherished cousins Marg Elliott and Pat Meadows, and remembered fondly by their families.

Jack was born in Orillia, to the late William and Rose Calvert. He was an active member of St Paul’s United Church for many years, and later in his life an active member of Heritage United Church in Washago. He had a great love of music, singing in the church choirs and many other groups for over 80 years. He particularly enjoyed singing and listening to barbershop music. Jack made many lifelong friends from his barbershop days, particularly the members of his quartet, The Four Canaries.

He was a longtime Rotarian, and life member of the Washago Rotary Club.

Jack started his retail shoe career at Dick’s Shoes in Orillia, later opening his own store, Jack Calvert Shoes in Orillia. Well into his 80’s, he opened Jax Bootery, a small shoe store and shoe repair shop in Washago. He finally retired from the shoe business at the age of 90, proud to be the longest serving shoe retailer in Canada.

A graveside memorial service will be held in Orillia at a later date. A link to a YouTube tribute video is available on the Mundell Funeral Home website. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
