It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Ian Cowper at Soldiers Memorial Hospital November 23, 2022. He was surrounded by his family. Ian was born in Toronto 1953.  He was a beloved son of the late Carlton and June Cowper and brother and special friend to both Bruce (Kathy) Cowper and Lynda (Peter) McLeod. He was also a cherished uncle to Reid & Becky Cowper, Kale & Kristin Cowper, Davin & Ruby Cowper, Tate & Kiri Cowper, and Hillary & Meaghan Mcleod. He was known to family for extra hard handshakes, jokes, sports scores, Coronation Street gossip and swimming in what he would describe Georgian Bay as “warm as toast” water.

According to a write up in Elgin Bay newsletter “He has been an active participant in many special Olympic events over the years, at the local provincial and national levels winning medals in floor hockey, bowling, swimming, track and field and cross-country skiing. He was employed as a dishwasher at the Sundial Motor Inn for 25 years until it closed in 2004. He moved into Elgin Bay in 2011, enjoys cooking and boasting about his culinary skills at making haggis and blood pudding. He was a regular commentator of current news and weather as he would make his rounds daily in downtown Orillia”.

Special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, especially the intensive care unit nurses for their loving care. A family celebration of his life will take place in August 2023 near his favorite place, the family cottage on Georgian Bay where he was the happiest.  If desired, memorial donations to the Special Olympics would be appreciated by the family.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com <http://www.mundellfuneralhome.com>. Ian taught us all to be kinder more compassionate human beings.  We invite you to commit to three acts of kindness in his honor.
