It is with complete shock and utter sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Olive Marie (Mawdsley) Henry due to an accident at home on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Loving wife of Jim Henry for 43 years and mother to Sarah Wigan (Chris), and Dave Henry (Ashley) and grandmother to Michael, Ben and James Wigan, and Leah Henry all of Stratford. Born to John Richard Mawdsley and Olive Evelyn Burton (both predeceased) in Orillia.
Ollie will be sadly missed by her siblings: Jean Cote of Barrie, Mel Mawdsley (Marie - predeceased) of Oro-Medonte, Glen Mawdsley -predeceased (Dianne) of Oro-Medonte, Jack Mawdsley (Marlene) of Oro-Medonte, Shirley Gogol (Wendell) of Guelph, Mary Cochrane (Earl) of Mississauga, Norma Thor (Kris) (both predeceased) and Dorothy McIlravey (Chuck) of Barrie. As well as Donald Henry (Mary) Wingham, David Henry (Conchita) of Mexico, and Jane Morley (Scott) Waterloo. Along with many nieces and nephews.
The foundation for Ollies' life was her family and community. She spent her time helping others, from her early years at the farm in Hawkestone, to her many community involvements or in her career with social services which supported work in both Stratford and Perth County. While in the community Ollie was busy with scouting, 4-H, and the Rotary Club of Stratford, to name a few. She was the recipient of the Paul Harris award from Rotary, as well as being named one of the Women of the Year from Optimism Place. In her additional spare time, she also served on several boards including Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA), and more recently Partners in Employment, Onecare, and Family Services Perth Huron. Along with these accomplishments Ollie also utilized her skills with the family business – Burton Hicks – which worked to increase home ownership opportunities. It is hard to find someone who hasn't been touched by Ollie's hard work and dedication.
She will be remembered for her warm welcoming nature, which was then balanced off with the perfect mixture of determination, and independent, wrapped with an unconditional strength and support.
A private family service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021, followed by a Celebration of Ollie’s Life at the Revival House, 70 Brunswick St, Stratford from 2:00-4:00p.m. (Parking off Albert Street, but please enter building from Brunswick Street, for screening purposes.) We ask everyone that is attending to email or call the W. G. Young Funeral Home to reserve a time, and we ask that everyone please adhere to current COVID pandemic protocols.
Jim and his family would like to sincerely thank all the paramedics, doctors and nurses for all the care and compassion given to Ollie, it will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, and as expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Respite House, The Huron Perth Centre for Children and Youth, Optimism Place or another charity of your choosing through the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, ON. 519.271.7411. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
