Lois Hirst, the beloved wife of Alain Hirst passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto.

Lois was born December 4, 1943 to the late J. William and Frances Clarke and was the dear sister of June Leatherdale, Marion Aitken (Robert), Patsy Thor and the late Allan Clarke. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law Jack Leatherdale, Bev Gill and Terry Thor. Warmly remembered by her nephew Clarke Leatherdale (Heather) and nieces Adrienne Theed (Chris) and Jennifer Thor; great-niece Jacqueline Leatherdale and great-nephews William and Alexander Theed. Lois is survived by her husband’s brother Gerard and sister Helene who reside overseas.

Lois was always full of fun and possessed a spirit of adventure. After working at the University of Toronto she lived in Washington, DC while working at the World Bank. This was followed by employment at the US Army Base in Heidelberg, Germany. Lois then lived in Richmond, England where she worked at an architectural firm. She returned to Canada with Al where they lived in Toronto and Sarnia. But it was Lois’ hometown that drew them back to Orillia where they spent many happy years.

Together, Lois and Al enjoyed travelling and hiking.

Although Lois had many health challenges, her spirit never wavered. She was known for her love of hats and the highlight of her day was walking her dog Sasha. It was the last thing she did before her sudden stroke on Friday, November 19th.

Lois always marched to the beat of her own drum.

A private family graveside service will be held in honour of Lois.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Orillia SPCA through the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia.
