It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of George Knegt. He passed peacefully in his home on May 2, 2021 at the age of 74.
As he wrote in one of his childhood memoirs "I was born at a very young age" and he lived his life with great respect and love from that day on. Some would argue that he wasn't born at a young age at all because he was an old soul full of joy, wisdom, advice, and love; but George was a very funny man and his outlook on life reflected that.
He married his true love Anne (nee Foellmer) and they raised 3 lovely girls: Lisa McPherson (Jim), Michelle Hudolin (Grant), and Elizabeth Knegt. He always said that he didn't need sons when he had daughters: when you have daughters “the sons will follow”. He was patient, understanding, hard-working, gentle, and mischievous; and he loved boating, guitar playing, and you could always find him tinkering on something!
He battled kidney and heart disease for much of his life and battle them he did. He fought hard and beyond so many expectations of his conditions. He was kind, generous, caring, and fiercely loving to all of those that knew him; he was an inspiration.
Anyone that shared his friendship, his work, and his passions knows what a truly courageous and strong person he was.
Nothing made him happier than spending time with his loved ones: his parents Pieter and Marggie (predeceased), brothers John (Anne), Roelof (Dianne), Henry (predeceased) (Emmy), Pieter, sisters Geertji (predeceased), Jantje Dunn (Frank), Henny Troup (Bill).
Much loved by his parents-in-law Kurt and Magda Foellmer (predeceased), and Bruno Foellmer (predeceased). George meant the world to and will be missed by Berta Foellmer, a beloved and cherished Aunt. He will be missed by many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and colleagues.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and support staff from the Regional Kidney Care Clinic at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their decades of absolutely outstanding work and the care and support they provided for him and Anne.
In light of current Covid protocols there will be a private family service. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
