It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth Power in Orillia, Ontario on Dec 21, 2021, in her 100th year. Elizabeth is pre-deceased by her husband Fred, son Terry and daughter-in-law Joanne. She was loving mother to Louise (Craig) and Stephen (Diane); devoted grandmother to Nicole (Kevin), Michelle (John), Alan (Lori), Peter, Christopher, Courtney (Ted), and Adrian; treasured great grandmother to Adam, Tyler, Kristen, Madeline, Ella, Evan, Ash and Mae; and favourite aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is also fondly remembered by sister-in-law Marge, and cousins, Joe Schoen, Julia, Elizabeth, Katie and Joe Bartolf.
Born in Semlac, Romania, Elizabeth came to Canada at the age of nine and settled with her parents in Toronto. She started her career at Otis Elevator in Hamilton. She then married her high school sweetheart Fred Power and worked with her parents as market gardeners in the Holland Marsh. Upon leaving the Marsh, she and Fred settled on Tavistock Road in Downsview, where she was known for maintaining beautiful flower gardens. She was a true multi-tasker, serving as the bookkeeper for Power Bros. Service Centres while raising a family and participating in her community, including as a Brownie Troop leader, and fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, as well as other noteworthy charitable causes.
Known for her gentleness and kindness, Elizabeth loved spending time with family and friends. She was an accomplished bowler and member of the Camborne Avenue Bowling League. She was an active member of the Roding Park Seniors Club where she honed her skills as a card shark. Cribbage and Euchre were her games of choice, and she liked to win. She enjoyed vacations in Florida where she spent hours collecting seashells on the beach.
Elizabeth moved to Orillia in her mid 80s. She was among the first residents to move into the Independent Living Suites on 20 Simcoe Street, where she spent 14 wonderful years and established many great friendships in a very close-knit community. In 2020, she moved to Victoria House on Laclie Street where she was soon joined by two good friends. They looked out for each other and enjoyed many card games and meals together. Even in her later years she continued to love bling and pretty things and was always well-dressed.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the caring staff at Victoria House, the medical and nursing staff on Soldiers One, and Elizabeth’s family physician, Dr. Kathleen Michalski.
