Colin Wackett

With great sadness at Simcoe Hospice on January 18th, 2020 at the age of 84 when he lost his 20 year battle with cancer.

For over 30 years, he was a wonderful husband and best friend to Cathy. Colin was a loving father to Mark (d) and Alex and will be missed by many nieces and nephews including Colin (Cindy), Kim (Scott), Kerry, Keith and Phil (d).

Colin volunteered actively in any community he lived in. He first volunteered to serve in the British Royal Air Force at the age of 17 ½ and a day overseas. At the age of  20 once returning from military service, he signed up to be a London Bobby. At the age of 22, he moved to Canada to pursue new opportunities. He landed in Toronto and became a York Metropolitan Police Officer which he served for over 10 years. Colin then went on to tackle sales of the life insurance, financial planning and group benefits. He started his own business and helped clients, friends and family with financial planning, understanding life insurance and what to do in tough situations. His family could really use his help right now to know who to call and what to do.

Throughout his working and retirement years he has been a member (and often president) of the following organizations: Gymnastics Canada (President, Jay Goold Award, Special Achievement Award, Life Member), Ontario Jaycees Gymnastics Club (Outstanding Young Man), Confederation of Canada (Centennial Medal), Huronia Ride for Dad (Chair), Prostate Cancer Awareness Group (Chair), Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 (President, Deputy Zone Commander, PRO, Presidents Award), Orillia Channel Cats (President), Orillia Citizen of the Year, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and International Police Association (President, Life Member).

Special thanks to all of the amazing care he received from PSW’s, Nurses and Service Team from Orillia Hospice to help keep him at home the last few months.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, on Thursday January 23, 2020 from 6-9 P.M. and on Friday January 24, 2020 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. The funeral service will be held at St. James’ Anglican Church 58 Peter St. N., Orillia on Saturday January 25, 2020 at 11 o’clock. Spring interment St. Andrew’s St. James’ Cemetery, Orillia.

Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34, Orillia are asked to gather in the Doolittle Chapel for service on Friday evening at 6:30 P.M.

In Lieu of  flowers, we ask any family and friends who wish to send memorial donations, to Huronia Ride for Dad or Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34.

To say he will be remembered just doesn’t seem to do him and all of his good work justice.
