Search for missing boater in Lake Ontario near Oakville

OAKVILLE, Ont. — Police have been searching through the night for a boater they believe went missing on Lake Ontario in the Oakville, Ont., area.

Halton Police Marine officers say they were on a call early Thursday evening near 16 Mile Creek and Lake Ontario when they noticed a boat which was adrift with no one aboard.

They determined the vessel had been purchased earlier in the day and that the "experienced" operator had been seen alone, boarding the boat and leaving Bronte Harbor at around noon.

An extensive search and rescue operation was immediately launched on the water.

And a shoreline search from 16 Mile Creek area to Bronte Harbor was also begun soon after.

Halton Police have been asking area residents with shoreline property to check for their grounds for the missing person.
