TINY TOWNSHIP - Members of the OPP Marine Unit attached to the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) provided 31 hours of active marine patrol time on the waters of Georgian Bay and inland lakes of Simcoe North during Aug. 19-28, 2019.

OPP marine officers checked 29 vessels and operators for proper vessel equipment and sobriety while patrolling the waters of Georgian Bay and responded to nine calls for marine-related service from the public.

Officers also participated in the Tiny Township Family Fun Day hosted by the Tiny Township Fire Service at the Fire Hall in Wyevale Fire on Aug. 24, 2019.

The OPP provided a display to help educate young and old on safe all terrain vehicle (ATV) operation and marine safety. Even "Sparky" received some ATV safety instruction from the officers, see attached photo.

Marine officers conducted ATV patrol later in the day of Aug. 24, 2019 on the trails throughout the County of Simcoe forest bounded by Concession Roads 4 and 5 of Tiny Township.

Officers were able to stop and check 10 ATVs and Off Road Motorcycles. Many were warned for various offences and officers cited two operators under the Off Road Vehicle Act. A similar number of ATV/Off Road Motorcycles did not stop for the officers when directed to do so and further follow up patrols will be conducted in the area to address these issues.
