On Nov. 27, 2018 at 10 a.m., the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and Crime Stoppers of Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka are hosting a presentation on 'Fraud Awareness for Seniors.' 

Presenter Tom Cheel from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre will be providing information on and answering questions relating to fraud. The 45-minute presentation focuses on fraud awareness and prevention. 

Some of the top frauds currently targeting our seniors are romance, prize, extortion, bank inspector, emergency and grandparent calls, anti-virus scams and phishing scams which can lead to identity theft.   

The event is free and is open to seniors and their family members.

The OPP and Crime Stoppers want to raise awareness and prevent frauds from happening by giving people the resources and tools they need to make informed decisions. 

The OPP and Crime Stoppers also want to offer support for those who have been victimized by giving information on what to do if they have been victimized.
