Arrests made after two armed robberies reported on same night

Circle K stores in Midland and Penetanguishene robbed within hours

MIDLAND - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment were dispatched at 1:45 a.m. Nov. 22, 2019 to a report of a robbery with a weapon at the Midland Avenue, Midland Circle K store. Attending officers searched the area for the suspect who had fled the scene prior to their arrival. OPP officers from the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with an OPP K-9 continued the search but did not locate the suspect.

At 3:55 a.m. Nov. 22, 2019, OPP officers were dispatched to another report of a robbery with a weapon at the Main Street, Penetanguishene Circle K store. Attending officers again searched the area for a suspect that had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the dispatched officers. The uniform officers continued their search throughout the area and at 4:10 a.m. Nov. 22, 2019 did make an arrest of a suspect at a gas station on Simcoe County Road 93 in the Town of Midland.

Investigators with the assistance of members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment Crime Unit have completed their investigation and officers have charged the following persons in relation to this investigation:

Daniel Andrew Frueh, 28 years of Midland, has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:
    •    Armed robbery (two counts)
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
    •    Carrying concealed weapon (two counts)
    •    Disguise with intent (two counts)
    •    Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada

Ian Peabody, 34 years of Midland, has been charged with the following offences:
    •    Armed robbery (two counts)
    •    Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada (two counts)
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
    •    Carrying concealed weapon (two counts)\disguise with intent (two counts)
and further
    •    HTA 53(1) driving while under suspension Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused persons will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
