Bike-stealing thief from Walmart nabbed by Orillia OPP

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest for theft from a business in the City of Orillia.  

On March 26, 2020 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Orillia OPP were dispatched to theft at a business on Murphy Road. The Loss Prevention Officer reported that a male suspect had ridden a bicycle out of the store without paying for it.  

Police were on patrol in the area and located the suspect on the bicycle a short distance from the business. The suspect, who has been identified as Joseph Gardiner, age 45, or Orillia, was charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000; 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • Breach of officer in charge undertaking.  

The suspect was released on a Form 10 Undertaking and set to appear next on May 26, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
