Campground owner charged after dispute with unhappy campers

BRACEBRIDGE - Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have responded to several complaints from patrons of a Bracebridge area campground/resort between July 30, 2020 and Aug. 29, 2020 after the owner prevented patrons from removing their property from the campground/resort until disputed fees were paid.

During an unrelated investigation, the campground/resort owner drove heavy machinery in a manner that endangered the safety of responding police officers and others nearby and assaulted one of the responding officers.

Police conducted investigations of these matters and have charged 60-year-old Brian Coldin of Bracebridge, Ont. with the following offenses:

  • Mischief CC 430(1)(d) and CC 430(1)(c) X 9
  • Theft Under $5,000 CC334(b)
  • Dangerous Operation CC 320.13(1)
  • Assault CC 266

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 20, 2020 to answer to his charges.
