Christian Island man faces charges after attempted donation box theft

Midland restaurant incident allegedly included altercation with staff involving an edged weapon

A suspicious persons report at 6:38 a.m. March 13, 2022 by staff at a Simcoe County Road 93, Midland restaurant lead responding members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) into a number of investigations involving two individuals.

Investigators learned of an altercation with restaurant staff involving a edged weapon and also an attempt theft of a cash donation bin from within the restaurant. Officers were able to locate and arrest two suspects on Yonge Street, Midland who had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the officers.

Charged in connection to this investigation is Jonathan Sylvester, 33 years of Christian Island with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Also charged in connection to this investigation is Kayla Lecamp, 34 years of Cedar Point, Christian Island First Nation with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was released on a recognizance and will later appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
