Citizen complaint leads to charges of drunk driving

Vehicle located on Kawartha Lakes Road. Driver faces several serious charges

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON -  On May 25, 2018 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information indicating that a motor vehicle was being operated by a driver whom appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP responded to this traffic complaint and were able to locate the vehicle on Kawartha Lakes Road 121, just North of Fenelon Falls. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Tammy McElwain, who was subsequently charged with the following offences:

  • Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Failing to surrender driver's licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 29, 2018.
