Davey Drive mischief call prompts investigation; three local residents face multiple charges

Second suspect broke into home while police were on scene; Orillia woman, Rama woman, Orillia man arrested

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have made several arrests in relation to a break and enter where firearms were stolen.

On Sept. 2, 2019 the Orillia OPP received a call to a Davey Drive residence with reports of a mischief in progress.

Police attended the call for service. While police were dealing with the suspect, a second suspect broke into the complainant's house and stole firearms.

As a result of a thorough investigation completed by Orillia OPP members and Orillia Community Street Crime Unit, police have arrested and charged the following people:

Karley Cooper, age 24 of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Break and Enter Contrary to Section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Mischief Under $5,000 Contrary to Section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Obstruct Peace Officer Contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Theft Under $5,000 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code.

This suspect was held in custody and later released on a Justice of the Peace Undertaking and set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Oct. 1, 2019.

Jamie LaPointe, age 29 of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter Contrary to Section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm Contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Careless Use of a Firearm Contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Knowledge of Possession of a Firearm Unauthorized Contrary to Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime Contrary to Section 96(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Break and Enter and Steal Firearm Contrary to Section 98(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code.

This suspect has been released on a Recognizance of Bail and set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Oct. 1, 2019.

Cassandra Cote, age 29 of Rama First Nation has been charged with three counts of Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. She has been released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Oct. 22, 2019.
