Driver critically injured in serious Severn collision

SEVERN - The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a serious motor vehicle collision in the Township of Severn.

On Thursday night, at approximately 8:05 p.m., members of the Orillia OPP were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on Division Road at Uhthoff Line.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck which was towing a trailer eastbound on Division Road struck a second passenger vehicle which was travelling northbound within the intersection. Responding officers arrived to find the driver of the truck unconscious, being assisted by Good Samaritans. 

Severn Fire and Emergency Services, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and Rama Paramedic Services all attended the scene and the driver was extricated and transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH). 

The driver of the second passenger vehicle and two passengers were also transported to OSMH as a precaution. The driver of the pickup truck was subsequently transported to a Toronto area hospital with critical injuries.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators were dispatched to assist with the investigation. The intersection remained closed until 4:30 a.m. while police investigated the scene.
