Driver escapes van fire on Highway 400

'The driver smelled smoke… and watched the vehicle get consumed by flames,' says OPP sergeant
A driver took quick action before their vehicle was consumed by flames Saturday.

A motorist travelling northbound on Highway 400 through Barrie on Saturday quickly escaped their vehicle upon smelling smoke.

"The driver smelled smoke, pulled the vehicle over, exited the vehicle and watched the vehicle get consumed by flames," said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

Barrie firefighters worked to extinguish the flames of the Sprinter van as it sat along the median in the northbound lanes near the Mapleview Drive exit at about 3:30 p.m., July 31. 

There were no injuries reported.
