Driver found slumped over steering wheel in Midland: OPP

The Tiny Township resident faces multiple charges as a result

A Tiny Township man faces impaired driving charges as well as additional offences, after he was found slumped over the steering wheel of a car on the morning of June 13, 2022. At 6:30 a.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene, a business on Midland Avenue in the Town of Midland after receiving a complaint from a member of the public. During the investigation, police located a quantity of drugs believed to be Blue Fentanyl as well as two prohibited weapons. The driver was arrested and was transported to detachment to undergo a Drug Recognition Evaluation.

As a result of this investigation, Joseph Leclaire, 32 years of Tiny Township was charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - Opioid
  • Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - Opioid
  • Fail to comply with probation order x2

The driver's license of the accused has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed to be impounded for 7 days. The accused was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
