Driver killed after medical emergency leads to car crash

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched at 7:11 a.m. May 29, 2019 to a single vehicle crash on Tiny Beaches Road South near the 5th Concession of Tiny Township.

Attending officers were assisted by members of the County of Simcoe Paramedics and Tiny Fire Service at the scene treating an 85-year-old male driver and his 83-year-old female passenger. Investigators determined that the male driver suffered a medical emergency prior to striking a large roadside tree.

Both occupants were transported to Georgian Bay General Hospital where the male passed away from complications of the medical emergency and the female was treated for minor injuries and released.

The roadway was partially closed for the investigation and tree removal by Tiny Township Roads Department.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
