GRAVENHURST - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Bracebridge Detachment arrested an impaired driver thanks to the efforts of a concerned member of the public.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on March 11, police received a call from a concerned driver regarding a suspected impaired driver after he was witnessed swerving and then running a stop light in Gravenhurst. Police responded and were able to locate the suspect vehicle. Witnesses advised police that while they were responding the driver and passenger swapped seats. The officers spoke to the occupants of the vehicle and subsequently arrested the correct driver.  

Charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code, having open liquor in vehicle under the Liquor Licence Act and failure to surrender drivers licence under the Highway traffic Act is 35-year-old Mathew Mailey of Oro-Medonte. He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 9, 2019 to answer to his charges.

This is another excellent example of both the community and the police working together to keep our streets safe. The OPP extend their appreciation to the engaged community members that reached out to help.
