Four drivers face impaired driving charges in separate incidents

Southern Georgian Bay OPP also investigate 10 motor vehicle collisions and 21 traffic complaints over the weekend

MIDLAND - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were kept busy over the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2019 with traffic duties. Officers set up three separate RIDE check stops along with investigating 10 motor vehicle collisions and 21 traffic related complaints.

Four drivers were also arrested and investigated over the weekend as follows.

June 2, 2019 at 11:47 p.m. an OPP officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Highway 12 Midland for a speeding offence. The officer upon speaking to the female driver, entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Carolina Rada 37 years of Tay Township being charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
    Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Speeding 50+ Km/h over posted limit
  • Race a motor vehicle - Excessive Speed
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
    Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

Her vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days along with her driver's licence being suspended for 90 days. She was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 20, 2019 in Midland.

June 2, 2019 at 3:09 a.m. an OPP officer checked a motorist on Hugel Avenue in the Midland downtown core after speaking with a number of males who had been drinking. The officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation after noting that the male driver had been drinking. As a result of this investigation Garrison Assance-Monague 24 years of Midland has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge
    Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days along with his driver's licence being suspended for 90 days. He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 25, 2019 in Midland.

June 1, 2019 at 11:36 p.m. officers were caused to attend a Paradise Avenue address in Tay Township for a call for service. During the course of the incident investigation, officers entered into a drinking and driving investigation with a male at the scene. This investigation resulted in Richard John Paulis 38 years of Guelph, Ont. being charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days along with his driver's licence being suspended for 90 days. He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 25, 2019 in Midland.

On June 1, 2019 at 6:02 p.m. OPP officers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash with a wooden hydro pole at the intersection of Lafontaine Road and Robert Street West, Penetanguishene. Investigators upon speaking with the female driver entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in the following criminal code driving charges for Brenda Mayer 60 years of Tiny Township:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
    Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Her vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days along with her driver's licence being suspended for 90 days. She was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 13, 2019 in Midland

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
