Front Street traffic stop results in numerous drug, weapons charges

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested several people in connection with drug trafficking in the City of Orillia.

On March 29, 2019, members of the Orillia OPP with the Orillia Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted a traffic stop on Front Street in Orillia. As a result of a short investigation police were able to seize a quantity of cocaine, cash, and a conducted energy weapon (commonly referred to as a taser).

As a result of the traffic stop, police have charged 23-year-old Tyvon Hall of Etobicoke with:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code.
    •    Carrying of a concealed weapon contrary to Section 90 of the Criminal Code.
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon or device contrary to Section 92(2) of the Criminal Code.
    •    Breach of probation contrary to section 733.1 of the Criminal Code.

Police have also charged 23-year-old Melvin Ogbomo of Etobicoke with: 
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code.
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon or device contrary to Section 92(2) of the Criminal Code.
    •    Breach of probation contrary to section 733.1 of the Criminal Code.

Both males have been held in custody and are set to appear next at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on April 1, 2019.

Police also charged 31-year-old Maria Chatzikyriakos of Severn Township with possession of a schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. She was released on a Promise to Appear for May 7, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.

The Orillia Community Street Crime Unit along with the Orillia OPP continues to investigate this.
