Licence plates have proven to be a controversial subject in Doug Ford's Ontario in recent months.

But it doesn't matter what colour your plates are, you need to ensure the permit stickers on your plates are up to date.

Typically, drivers head down to Service Ontario at the foot of West Street or go online to renew their stickers. They must be renewed on your birthday.

In southern Ontario, you can get a new sticker for $120 for one year or $240 for two years.

And if you don't do that, you could be in trouble. Just ask a few local drivers.

Earlier this week, the Orillia OPP, deploying a police car equipped with an Automatic Licence Plate Reader, hit the streets. The officers handed out nine tickets for an expired permit - a licence with an outdated sticker - and one ticket for an expired licence.

Those drivers who opted not to renew their stickers and who were nabbed now face $110 tickets ... and still need to get their new stickers.

Orillia OPP urges drivers to ensure they renew their permit stickers on their birthday to avoid such tickets.
