'Disturbance' on Shannon Street prompts heavy police presence

Members of the Orillia detachment's major crime unit, as well as the Forensic Identification Services (FIS) are assisting with the investigation

There is a significant police presence on Shannon Street this afternoon, where multiple cruisers are stationed in front of a home.

"We did respond to a disturbance on Shannon Street," said Gilles Doiron, the Orillia OPP's community mobilization unit's acting sergeant. "We do have officers in the area who are holding the scene."

Despite the heavy police presence, Doiron says there is no threat to public safety.

He said officers were called to the scene this afternoon just after 1 p.m.

Members of the Orillia detachment's major crime unit, as well as the Forensic Identification Services (FIS) are assisting with the investigation. Shannon Street has since been reopened but a small police presence will remain in the area, noted a media release from the OPP issued at 7 p.m.

Doiron asks anyone with information or footage related to the disturbance to contact police.
