CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES - Emergency services personnel, including officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded Sunday April 28, 2019 at approximately 10:15 p.m. to a garage fire at a Kirkfield area residence.
Upon police arrival the structure was fully engulfed in flames. Through investigation it was determined that a person was unaccounted for.
With the assistance of the OPP's Canine Unit and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal human remains were discovered on April 29, 2019 at the scene. The remains have been sent to the Center of Forensic Sciences for a post mortem examination. The investigation is continuing.
