A Midland man has been charged with stealing liquor after being found intoxicated in a coffee shop the same morning as the theft occurred, police say.

Police responded Sunday to a report of a break-in and theft at a restaurant on King Street in Midland that occurred at about 5:40 a.m. Two people stole “a significant amount of liquor,” Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.

Surveillance footage led police to identify one of the suspects. He was charged after being located intoxicated at a nearby coffee shop. Police are still trying to identify the other suspect.

Christopher Robin MacLeod, 50, has been charged with break, enter a place (commit an indictable offence), theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.
