It was not a peaceful Sunday afternoon in the Barrie Road area Sunday.

A man went into a Barrie Road residence and was allegedly met by Stano Zibritovsky, a knife-wielding man who "forcibly confined" the victim and stole his "personal property."

Zibritovsky then fled on foot in an attempt to flee the police, who had been summoned for help.

Not long after, and a short distance away, Orillia OPP officers located the suspect, who had entered another residence. Zibritovsky refused to come out.

A Critical Incident Commander arrived on the scene and co-ordinated efforts of members of the emergency response team (ERT), crisis negotiators and the canine unit.

Eventually, officers who had a dialogue with Zibritovsky through the door of the residence, talked him into surrendering.

Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface said the suspect did not live in either of the houses he entered, but did "have knowledge" of the victim and those who lived in the home on Dunedin Street. He noted a portion of Dunedin Street was closed by police for a short period of time on Sunday afternoon.

Zibritovsky, 38, of Orillia faces multiple charges including robbery with violence, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, uttering threats and failure to comply with a release order.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing Monday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
