Local 14-year-old suspected of two purse-snatchings nabbed by OPP

Male is charged with two similar incidents, just days apart, at business in parking lot of West Ridge business

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a youth in connection with two robberies near a business on West Ridge Boulevard in the City of Orillia.

On Feb. 17, 2019, just before 4 p.m., an unknown male approached a female in the parking lot of the West Ridge business and stole her purse.

Central Region Emergency Response Unit (ERT) and Central Region Canine were called in to assist in this investigation. 

On Feb. 22 at approximately 11:40 p.m. an unknown male approached a female in the same parking lot and stole her purse.

A short while later the Orillia OPP arrested a 14-year-old male. Police were able to connect the two incidents and charged the youth with two counts of Robbery Contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. 

The male, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YJCA), was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on April 10, 2019.

The Orillia OPP will continue to investigate these incidents.
