Man accused of breaking into Midland steak house twice

MIDLAND - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment were dispatched at 5 a.m. Dec. 4, 2019 to a report of a burglar alarm at the Arch Steak House on Yonge Street in the Town of Midland.

Attending officers arrived on scene shortly after the notification and after a brief investigation arrested a suspect at a nearby residence.

On Dec. 3, 2019 at 5:50 a.m. the same restaurant was also unlawfully entered and through investigation it was learned that it was the same arrested suspect.

Charged is Matthew James Cascanette, 20 years of no fixed address with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

  • Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)

The accused was held in police custody to appear before bail court in Barrie and upon release will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
