Man charged after jumping in front of vehicles on Highway 12

Midland man 'was in intoxicated and non-compliant state,' say OPP

MIDLAND - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 3:04 p.m. Sept. 29, 2018 along with the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services to numerous reports of a male jumping in front of moving vehicles on Highway 12 near William Street in the Town of Midland.

Responding officers located the male on William Street who was in a intoxicated and non compliant state. He was arrested and transported by police to the Georgian Bay General Hospital for treatment of his pre-existing injuries.

After being released from the hospital he was transported to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment. During the course of his stay he damaged the cell area of the detachment.

Charged is Shawn Salisbury 36 years of Midland with;

  • Resist Peace Officer contrary to section 129 (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430 (4) of the Criminal Code of Canada

He was later released on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Nov. 8, 2018

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
