Man dies after altercation in Penetanguishene

Because OPP responded to the incident, SIU is investigating

PENETANGUISHENE - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an altercation in Penetanguishene during the evening hours of Feb. 11, 2019.

As a result of the altercation, two men were transported by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services to an area hospital.

William McKee, 59 years old, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The 27-year-old man was airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre where he remains in critical condition. 

Investigation is ongoing with members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Chris Landry of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and they have invoked their mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.
