Midland man accused of armed robbery, shoplifting in two separate incidents

It is alleged that the 25-year-old was involved in both incidents on the same day

MIDLAND - On June 13, 2021 at 2:17 a.m. officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a robbery which had just occurred at a William Street, Midland convenience store.

The lone suspect, alleging to be in possession of a weapon demanded some store product and fled on foot prior to the arrival of officers. Investigators were assisted at the scene by members of the OPP Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K-9 Unit and were unable to locate the suspect.

On June 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. officers responded to a shoplifting occurrence at a Simcoe County Road 93 retail outlet involving a lone person. Through scene investigation and digital imagery the suspect was identified as being responsible for both occurrences and was arrested and located by officers on patrol in the Third Street and Hugel Avenue, Midland area at 9:04 p.m. June 13, 2021.

Nicholas Banks, 25, of Midland has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal offences:

  • Robbery with weapon
  • Theft under $5000 - Shoplifting
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada

The accused was held for a virtual bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on July 22, 2021.
