Midland man accused of striking police officer

Officer had to be taken to hospital after being struck by the accused, who was allegedly intoxicated

TINY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 8:52 p.m. July 29, 2020 to a disturbance happening on Balm Beach Road West near Balm Beach.

Officers attended and located the suspect causing the disturbance as an [allegedly] intoxicated person whom officers had been involved with previously during the day.

Officers made an arrest and during that arrest an involved officer was struck by the accused. The officer attended Georgian Bay General Hospital for treatment and was later released and the accused was transported to detachment for further investigation.

Charged is Paul Baskerville, 31 years of Midland, with resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused remains in custody for a video bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
