NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking owners of lost or stolen bicycles. There are several bicycles that have either been seized as stolen property or turned in to police when found by members of the public. One high end green bicycle was located recently. If you are looking for this bicycle, or another that was lost or stolen from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment area in 2019, consider contacting the Highway 12 detachment at 705-526-3761 or downtown Midland detachment at 705-526-6558 with a description of your bicycle.

How to prevent bicycle theft:

In the majority of thefts the bicycle was not locked which leads us to the #1 tip for crime prevention; lock your bicycle. Even if you are going inside a store for a few minutes or you have put it in a location that is out of sight, it only takes a few seconds to steal an unlocked bicycle.

In the event your bicycle is stolen:

Photos of your bicycle and a record of the serial number can be provided to police should your bicycle be stolen. The photos can then be linked to the theft report to assist in identifying the bike should it be recovered.

This leads to the fact that if your bike is stolen, please report it to police by either calling 1-888-310-1122 or you can do so via Citizen Self Reporting at www.opp.ca.
