Missing senior, last seen in Midhurst, had no wallet or phone

Harvey Doherty, 87, last seen taking dogs for walk on trail system behind his home; Command post set up at Simcoe County Museum

The Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing its search for a missing person, 87-year-old Harvey Doherty, and is asking for the public’s assistance.

Harvey was last seen on May 26, just before 4 p.m., when he took his two dogs for a walk in the trails immediately behind his residence. The trail system is located in the area of County Road 27, north of Highway 26, in Midhurst. He was wearing a blue sweater, black pants, hiking boots. He is approximately six feet tall, with grey hair.

OPP officers are exhausting all efforts and resources to locate Mr. Doherty. OPP specialty units such as the Emergency Response Team, Canine, and Aviation are on scene assisting with the search.

Officers began searching Thursday afternoon into the night and commenced their efforts again this morning.

The OPP is extremely grateful to the number of volunteers from Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue who are assisting with the search.

There is an OPP command post set up at the museum in Midhurst.

Police and the family are concerned for Harvey’s well-being. He did not have his wallet with him and left his cellphone at home. Both Harvey’s dogs have since returned home. However, Harvey is still missing.
