Barrie city police block Lockhart Road, just east of Huronia Road, after a fatal crash Saturday involving a motorcycle and car,

A motorcyclist died after colliding with a car in south-Barrie Saturday afternoon.

The crash took place on Lockhart Road, west of Yonge Street and east of Huronia Road.

Barrie city police were called to the scene at 3:58 p.m.

Peter Leon, corporate communications co-ordinator with Barrie Police Service, said next-of-kin were being notified and no other information was being released about the victim.

“I suspect the road will likely remain closed for the next couple of hours,” Leon said just after 6 p.m. “It’s (the investigation is) still very much in the early stages.”

No information was available from police about what caused the crash.

The city police traffic unit is investigating.

Saturday’s collision was the second serious crash involving a motorcycle in Barrie within two weeks.

On May 22, a 35-year-old woman was seriously injured after a collision between a motorcycle and an ambulance at Bayfield and Livingstone streets in the city's north end just after 6 p.m.

Police say the motorcycle’s driver, a 35-year-old man, was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) with minor injuries. His passenger, a 35-year-old woman, was taken to RVH and then to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries.
