Multiple impaired drivers keep Orillia OPP busy

Five people nabbed over the weekend now face a variety of charges

Over the weekend the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy with drivers driving while impaired in the Orillia OPP detachment area.

On Oct. 12, 2018 approximately 8:25 p.m. officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 400. When officers arrived a brief investigation was conducted. As a result Joseph Catalano, age 33, of Cobourg was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

On Oct. 12, 2018 at approximately 10:10 p.m. Orillia OPP members were on patrol when a male who was wanted for impaired driving offences was observed driving. A traffic stop was conducted and the male was observed to be showing the usual signs of impairment. 

As a result, 45-year-old, Sandu Gurnam or Orillia was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 Milligrams Blood/Alcohol and Breach of Officer in Charge Undertaking.

On Oct. 13, 2018 at approximately 12:35 a.m. Orillia OPP member observed a motor vehicle driving erratically on Highway 12 in Ramara Township. A traffic stop was conducted and, 34-year-old, Brock Stonefish from Moravian First Nation was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80 Milligrams Blood/Alcohol.

On Oct. 15, 2018 the Orillia OPP were conducting Radar enforcement on Highway 11 when a vehicle was stopped for a Highway Traffic Act violation. As a result the driver Gordon Coutts of Barrie was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 milligrams Blood/Alcohol and Speeding.

All the above mention persons were released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Oct. 30, 2018.

On Oct. 14, 2018 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Orillia OPP received a complaint of an erratic driver on Highway 11. Police found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver 40-year-old Nathan Campbell of Barrie was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs. 

The driver was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Schedule I and II Substance. The accused was release on a Promise to Appear for Nov. 5, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
