OPP act on tip, nab Severn senior for impaired on Sunday morning

SEVERN - Members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a female with impaired driving in the Township of Severn.

On Sept. 27, 2020, approximately 10:40 a.m., police received an anonymous phone call reporting that a female had just been seen driving in Washago and that the caller believed that she was impaired and did not have a licence.

Officers responded quickly and located the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and, upon speaking with the driver, an impaired driving investigation was conducted. 

As a result, Sylvia Hewitt, age 65, of Severn Township was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Prohibited Under the Criminal Code, contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on a Form 10 Undertaking and is set to appear on Dec. 8, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
