Update: Friday, June 15, 10:22 p.m.

At 7:45 pm June 15, 2018 the body of a Tay Township female resident was located and recovered with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) from the waters of Georgian Bay off Midland Bay Woods, Tay Township. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the conclusion of the post mortem.

Emergency services in and on the water searching for the missing kayaker are asking for all private vessels to stay well clear of their search activities in Midland Bay off Midland Bay Woods. Thank you!

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit were dispatched at 1:15 p.m. this afternoon to a report of an overturned kayak off Midland Bay Woods in Tay Township.

The Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) has dispatched a Hercules search and rescue aircraft and a helicopter to the scene to participate in the incident.

An OPP helicopter is also en-route along with the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit to assist the members of the OPP patrol vessel Thomas P. Coffin.

Currently officers are searching for what is reported as a female occupant of the kayak who is unaccounted for.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
